Company description:: Until now geophysicists and archaeologists relied on obscure two dimensional images to survey potential sites of interest; today ZODIAC provides stunningly colorful and globally illuminated 3D models clearly revealing the remains (or geophysical anomalies) beneath the Earth’s surface. This new technique was developed by Christophe DM Barlieb of CDMB Architects along with the support of Cornelius Meyer and Burkart Ullrich of Eastern Atlas over the course of the last year. The first conclusive tests were performed on a Roman Villa in the vicinity of Munigua, Spain; a project sponsored by the Deutsch Archaeological Institute (DAI Madrid).
ZODIAC targets the global geophysical and archaeological prospecting market by providing a range of economic solutions i.e. 3D Geo-Radar, 3D Modeling, 3D Laser Scanning, 3D CNC Milling, Geo-Radar, Geo-Electric, Geo-Magnetic and DGPS Surveying.
To put it in Mr. Barlieb’s words “ZODIAC is like a pair of glasses; without them you’re just lost! ZODAIC just make life easier for the serious geophysicist / archeologist seeking to pin down where to begin an excavation.” The idea behind ZODIAC is to cut down costs scientifically. ZODIAC is used prior to field work (excavation) minimizing the expenditure of capital, manpower and time. “Basically we send out a team of geophysicists to survey the terrain with geophysical instruments and then let ZODIAC do the work of revealing what’s down there. It’s amazing to see this data become three dimensional” says Mr. Meyer, “We just never expected to get such clear results in such a short amount of time.”
ZODIAC doesn’t stop there! One of the most amazing features about the technique is the possibility to use 3D Laser Scanning and create seamless 3D views of artifacts above and below the Earth’s surface; together these data sets may be output to 3D CNC milling machines to produce remarkable physical models.

The future of geophysical and archaeological prospecting is here! ZODIAC is publicly released today (April 1st 2004) at the 4th ICAANE taking place from the 29th of March to the 3rd of April at the Freie Universitaet, Henry Ford Bau, Garystrasse 35, 14195 Berlin (on the World Wide Web at http://www.4icaane.de )
ZODIAC is available today for anyone desiring the clearest picture of geophysical anomalies. ZODIAC is the name giving to this new tool in homage to the universal symbolic concept of “as above so below” referring to mankind’s struggle to pierce the fiercest mystery.
